Appaloosa Horse Club
History and Membership
The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) was formed in 1938 with the mission to
preserve the Appaloosa breed. Today it is one of the larger equine
breed registries in the world.
Historically, the Appaloosa breed was used by the Nez Perce tribe for
hunting and travel purposes. Following the Nez Perce War in 1877, herds
of these horses were dispersed and gradual interest in the breed began
to increase.
The Appaloosa Horse Club is an organization that dedicates itself to
preserve and promote this breed. Today, the appaloosa horse club offers
extensive youth and non-pro programs for members.
Below we will take a look at the Appaloosa Horse Club and cover some
basic membership benefits and events that are put on by this
organization.

Events
As we mentioned above there are many events available for members
within the ApHC. If you are into showing your horse there are many
opportunities to earn awards including local open shows, regional
shows, and the prestigious world championship show.
You can earn points with your Appaloosa at open shows through the
Appaloosa Competitive All-Breed Activities Program. If you enroll your
Appaloosa in this program you have the option of earning points in
cutting, barrel racing, gaming, hunter shows, open shows, and more.
If you opt to show at ApHC events, you can gain points and work towards
awards under the youth or non-pro programs. They also have a novice
non-pro program for those that are newer to competition.
If you are interested in Appaloosa racing, there is a complete set of
races and awards for horses involved. Make sure you check out the
website for more complete information.
If you love spending time on the trail with your horse for either
leisure or competition, the ApHC has several programs available. The
Saddle Log Program recognizes time spent in the saddle and the
Competitive and Endurance Riding are for more serious competitors.
Publications
Each month the ApHC publishes the Appaloosa Journal. Each issue
contains helpful information on a variety of topics related to the
breed including health, racing, trail riding, and shows.
This magazine is included in your membership and there are options to
purchase a subscription separate from club membership.
