Horse Show Ribbons

Placings and Memories

Horse show ribbons are a huge part of the end rewards for many horse show enthusiasts. This is most true for the younger exhibitors. As you get older the thrill of bringing home the ribbon does fade, especially when you have boxes upon boxes of ribbons in your basement. Depending on where you go, the type of ribbon may vary slightly.

There are also different colors for each placing depending on the country you are showing in. Below we will break down what each placing and color mean in the U.S. and in other countries.

What To Do With All Those Ribbons

Once you have been involved in showing horses for a few years you will start to notice a buildup of horse show ribbons in boxes, on walls, and on shelves. Many of us wonder if there is anything we can do with our old ribbons beside packs them in boxes. Below we discuss a couple examples.

Quilts:
Your prized ribbons can be used to fashion a quilt. There are some people who have combined the skill of quilting with the fabric of show ribbons to create quilts with many wonderful patterns. It is one method to cherish those many memories spent under the hot sun with your friends and your horse.

Quilting can also be done with your horse show ribbons to create wall hangings and pillows. The possibilities are endless when you are creating patterns with the ribbons you have.

Displays:
Sometimes those ribbons mean a lot more than just the placing. Your very first horse show ribbon or first place ribbon may have a spot in your heart forever. For those very important ribbons, there are a few methods you could consider to display them. For example, you can look into getting some traditional shelving for a display.

Other ideas include more craft type ideas such as running a thin and sturdy wire around the border of the room to hang them on. This allows for a little more display room and is more reasonable than buying individual hangers for your horse show ribbons.
